The Mid-America Port Commission encompasses 26 counties in Illinois (11), Missouri (9), and Iowa (6).

Illinois: Adams, Brown, Cass, Hancock, Henderson, Mercer, Morgan, Pike, Schuyler, Scott, and Warren Counties

Iowa: Des Moines, Henry, Jefferson, Lee, Van Buren, and Wapello Counties

Missouri: Clark, Knox, Lewis, Marion, Monroe, Pike, Ralls, Scotland, and Shelby Counties

The 26-county tri-state area is over 13,000 square miles, with the arteries of the Upper Mississippi and the Illinois rivers running through it. The 26 counties have over 450,000 people who will be served by the Port.

The proposed site is below Mississippi River Lock & Dam 21 in the South Quincy Development District in Quincy, Illinois. Here the river is navigable 12 months of year. The dry side is protected by a 500-year levee and is served by both BNSF and Norfolk Southern railroads.

The site is within 10 miles of Interstate 172/72 & Chicago-Kansas City Expressway. It is also within 15 miles of the four-lane Avenue of the Saints.
